what are the best ways to finish hardwood furniture? what about pine?
just built some small tables, benches, etc. the plans suggest cornuba wax which I tried on 1 but the wood still just lacks that final pizazz! Any suggestions for knockout finishing?
wax will not stand up to any abuse. poly, varnish, etc. are about the only things that will take some abuse. i suggest you take a scrap piece of lumber from one of your projects, stain it if desired then topcoat it. see if you like the results. if not, redo it. fyi, pine will blotch with stain. i suggest you just topcoat it. also, that item that you put wax on will have to have it all removed before you attempt to do anything else with it. mineral spirits will help with that.
