To many of us the dining room tables have multi uses. I know I sit and use my laptop at mine, write at it and sometimes read a newspaper at it. Many modern houses need to have multi purpose spaces and the dining room is probably no exception. Space is often at a premium in homes and we need to fill our homes with furniture that does more than one job. To be fair, tables for dining were probably the first multiple use item of furniture.
The best use of a dining table is obviously to sit down to eat at. There is nothing nicer than sitting with family around the table having a meal and sharing news about our days. It is also a great place to have the kids in one place doing their school homework. You may only think about dining when selecting dining room tables, but you do need to consider what other uses you might have for it.
Your choice of table needs to serve you well as somewhere to eat, but also the other needs you have for your table need to be brought into the equation. So sit down for a moment and write down all of the things you do at your dining room table. Maybe you sew at yours so you can have all of the necessary things to hand for that. One very popular use of a large dining room table these days is for crafting, making cards, jewellery or other crafting activities.

The majority of modern furniture can deal with the odd spill of paint or a child’s crayon mark so it’s worth keeping that in mind while choosing dining room tables.
